As the prequel to DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal, the hype is most definitely real for DOOM The Dark Ages, the next installment of the iconic FPS franchise from id Software. As expected, thanks to some rumors, the game’s release date was revealed at the Xbox Developer Direct event in January 2025.
The good news is we won’t have to wait long until we can step into the boots of the “DOOM Slayer” and start blowing Hell’s minions to bits in a sinister medieval war, using unique weaponry to decimate enemies.
We are just going to cut to the chase right now. DOOM The Dark Ages will be released on 15 May 2025, so mark your calendars!
New DOOM The Dark Ages Details
In the Xbox developer direct segment, it was noted that it is the most ambitious DOOM game to date, focusing on the three core pillars of Combat, Exploration, and Story.
As the Slayer, you’ll be invited to explore a dark fantasy/sci-fi world with DOOM’s immediately recognizable hellish twist, fighting your way across sprawling fantasy battlefields with an expanded arsenal of weapons and equipment. With DOOM: The Dark Ages, the team has taken the opportunity to reimagine every aspect of the DOOM experience to create an explosive new action adventure for both long-time fans and newcomers.
While Xbox does own Bethesda, PlayStation gamers don’t have to worry. DOOM The Dark Ages will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PC, or PS5. As a first-party title, it should be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.

I’m ready to start slaying! id Software has completely sold me on DOOM The Dark Ages! This will be one of the greatest titles in the franchise to date, with the medieval killing tools at our disposal.
