Maybe technology has gone too far—but let me be the first to say: I, for one, welcome our robot overlords. Okay, so that might be a bit of an overreaction. It was my first thought when I saw the news of a programmer running the original DOOM via Google’s search bar.
Here I was, minding my own business and Googling cats with bread on their heads, all while a programmer Pedro Webber was doing something bonkers, and it worked! Keep in mind that we’ve seen DOOM running on a lot of things. That includes a smart fridge, watches, and anything with a screen, really. But a search bar? That’s kinda next level.
Pedro Webber showed off his feat of programming genius in a YouTube video posted in February 2025. Check it out below.
Yes, I am utterly impressed. Pedro also promised more experiments in the future. As you can see from the video above, it’s not exactly perfect. The game is in black and white. Pedro uses a PS4 controller to play.
So how did Pedro achieve such as feat? Well, he explains it in the video, but the long and short of it is that he imported a version of DOOM written in the Python programming language into the iconic search bar, then made adjustments until the game looked decent.

Pedro Webber also turned Elden Ring into ASCII art and even ran Baldur’s Gate 3 in Notepad. Yes, you read that correctly. Therefore, DOOM on the Google Search Bar was kinda inevitable.
Keep in mind that the original DOOM was released in 1993. It’s not exactly power-hungry, unlike DOOM: The Dark Ages, which requires quite a powerful PC to play.
I, for one, can’t wait to find out what this programmer does next. Surprisingly, he only has like 200 subscribers on YouTube, which is shameful! Go support him today.
