Monster Hunter Wilds Does Not Run Well On Steam Deck

Just by looking at the minimum PC system requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds and the recommended requirements for a good experience, it was clear that Monster Hunter Wilds wouldn’t run well on my Steam Deck.

Yes, I have the OLED version, the best one currently available, and yes, I’ve tested several settings. You can also see how it runs for yourself with the Monster Hunter Wilds PC Benchmark tool, free on Steam.

Before we get into the results, let me just say that I am no noob to the Steam Deck and tinkering with multiple settings. I set the AMD FSR Upscaling to “Ultra Performance” and dropped all the graphics settings down to the lowest possible option. Then, I even disabled stuff like water effects and grass movement…everything I possibly could. It made the game look terrible, in case you were wondering.

Now, let’s get to the rather devasting results for those hoping to play Monster Hunter Wilds on the Steam Deck.

Steam Deck Monster Hunter Wilds Best FPS & Score

The Benchmark Score for Monster Hunter Wilds on my Steam Deck was roughly 3400, that’s more than 1800 less than the 5199 milestone, which means that you will have difficulty playing the game, as indicated by Capcom’s scoring system.

From my testing with the game on PC (outside of the benchmark), Monster Hunter Wilds struggled badly.

I could hit roughly 22 Frames Per Second (FPS) on average outside, while in town, I got a mere 15 FPS on average. I rarely saw the game hit 30 FPS, even with the tiniest bit going on.

Yes, technically, Monster Hunter Wilds can run on Valve’s handheld. The game worked and didn’t crash, even with many setting experiments. However, it’s not an experience I would wish even on an Anjanath…and I hate that bloody monster!
