Hide your Koopa Troopas and start whispering about a new Zelda game, Nintendo fans! It’s finally time for the Nintendo Switch 2. Yes, Nintendo has officially announced the Switch 2, after we’ve been waiting in anticipation for this new piece of gaming hardware forever.
Nintendo didn’t share a lot of information, as the first hands-on events are planned for April 2025. We did, however, see bigger Joycons, new, fancy buttons, and a second USB-C port next to the headphone hole (should I just call it a jack?).
There’s also a brand-new dock with some interesting design choices and a nice, wide tabletop stand that doesn’t look as flimsy as the previous one.
Nintendo Switch 2 Release Window Confirmed
I’ve got some good news for you. The wait won’t be years. Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be released sometime in 2025, which is quite a considerable release window, but it is a window nonetheless. In a short-but-sweet announcement post, Nintendo stated:
Nintendo Switch 2, the successor to the Nintendo Switch system, will be released in 2025.
The original Switch was released on 3 March 2017, in case you were wondering. That’s more than eight years before people get a chance to go hands-on with the device during a few select events starting on 4 April 2025.

The first-look trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2 made me just a little bit less salty. Yes, the world isn’t a fantastic place to live in right now (understatement), but at least we know that in 2025, we’ll play on a brand-new handheld system.
I can’t help but wonder how powerful, precisely, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be. Could Nintendo blow all competitors out of the water, and how will Valve with the Steam Deck, or ASUS with the ROG Ally, possibly respond? It’s going to be an exciting few years, that’s for sure!
