You would have either loved or hated the original Rake from all the way back in 2015. As far as video games go, it’s one of those classics that some adore and others forget about quite quickly.

Existential crisis over. Sorry about that. Now, let’s move on. The first thing you need to know is that Rake Remastered is an indie project currently in an Early Access phase. The second thing is that it’s completely free, so just head to the Rake Remastered Steam to add it to your library and play it. Once claimed, the game is yours to keep and play forever, or at least until the inevitable robot uprising occurs and dooms us all.
What Is Rake Remastered? Explained
Rake Remastered is dubbed as a spiritual successor to the 2025 classic, where players jump into the boots of an investigator and attempt to survive. Think of it as playing the main character in a thriller/horror with survival vibes but without many of the modern survival game mechanics.
The goal is to survive a monstrous predator called “Rake” as you place traps and cameras and just try to stay safe, solving the mystery of this strange creature along the way. An official description reads:
As an investigator, you’re drawn to a forest shrouded in mystery, tasked with uncovering the truth behind a string of chilling disappearances. Armed with only a handful of tools, you must navigate the eerie landscape, piece together unsettling clues, and face a predator unlike anything you’ve encountered.
Spooky! It’s damn good, trust me. At least the original was, in my opinion, but it might be rose-colored glasses since I’ve been living forever, and 2015 feels like yesterday. In any case, Rake Remastered is still a work in progress, so expect bugs, and not all content will be available.

You’ll need roughly 15GB of free space, 8 GB RAM, an Intel Core i3 7100, and a GeForce GTX 1050 minimum to play. A word of warning: the game isn’t exactly fully optimized just yet.
The developer expects Rake Remastered to be in Early Access for 6 to 8 months. Remember, it’s free, so don’t complain too much!
