Rockstar Games released the original GTA 5 well over a decade ago…and we all thought Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) would release this year. Well, think again, as your trip to Leonida (like a fake Florida) has been delayed. Yes, GTA 6 has really been delayed, this is not a joke or some clickbait.
In a rather short blog post, Rockstar Games spoke to fans, announcing the delay of GTA 6 until 26 May 2026, saying that they are “very sorry that this is later than you expected.”
Rockstar went on to explain a bit about why the GTA 6 delay is happening, revealing that they need more development time to delivery on the quality fans expect from them.
With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.

That does make sense, since Rockstar Games titles are polished to the max, and absolutely gigantic in size. The game is expected to sell exceptionally well. However, it will now be released in the next financial year. I can’t help but wonder how the Take-Two Interactive board feels. Predictions put pre-order sale estimates at $1 billion. Analysts also predict over $3 billion in sales in the first year. Ouch! Yes, that is USD in case you were wondering.
While this is quite devastating for many fans who want to play GTA 6 as soon as humanly possible, sometimes, delays like this cannot be helped. I, for one, would rather play a polished game than a buggy mess! At least we have Borderlands 4 to look forward to this year, alongside a host of other exciting titles.
